Yes. Tell your recruiter everything about your past medical history no matter if you think it is small. It's better to be upfront about everything than to not mention something, then have them find out about it later. I know somebody that went into the Marine Corps Reserves and he had to tell his recruiter about going to see a psychiatrist and his many months of therapy. It didn't get him medically disqualified, so I don't think taking one anger management course when you were 6 years old will get you disqualified either.

I think being unsuccesful at school can be a big problem. Anyone who drops out and doesn't get a ged I think can have big problems. Also everyone who drops out talks about getting a ged but usually doesnt. Then they can't get a good job or maybe get a job without potential for advancement and feel like they are not getting anywhere.

If they don't have a job then relatives nag them since they are usually living off others and they can't really socialize with people their age because they don't have a job and it takes money to socialize and people want to date people with a job or with at least potential usually.

Frequently a mom such as divorced mom will kind of baby a son and like to have him around and feel sorry for him. But take him to a family reunion and the men will all ask "are you working yet?" So then they start avoiding their extended family.

Divorce can be really hard. Some kids of divorce don't get much attention or help with school. Some parents don't get the kid into sports, scouts, church or anything that would help.

I think divorce makes some kids very very angry and they can start cutting and doing destructive things. Also traveling back and forth between families can be hard and it is hard to get structure and discipline in a kids life that way, plus the parents are stressed.

Of course you'll have the types that say divorce can be ok for kids if blah blah blah, but really it's a cop-out. I think in general kids of parents who stay married are much better adjusted and successful.

The high school dropout frequently start talking about all the mistakes they made and messed up their life and maybe start drinking, etc. Their behavior can annoy relatives who feel like they are being used.

Also some of these people who drop out of school don't have a lot of good character traits like patience, perservence, industry, ambition. Are these traits inborn or learned, not sure, but I think they can be encouarged to an extent and then it is their decision if they want to work hard for something.

I know an adult male who didn't even learn how to multiply or spell practically, he just carried around a calculator and electronic dictionary. He thought learning his times table when he was a teen would be too much trouble when he could use a calculator. This was a person of at least average intelligence. How he got so far in school without knowing times tables is beyond me. He made it though 10 or 11 grade.

They can be kind of lazy, moochy, and also impulsive and angry. If they don't like the way something is going they can get mad and quit. Quitting can be a big thing. They quit jobs that they should have been happy to get, when people were doing them a favor to even hire them. They can have trouble seeing the big picture.

Some want to get through life the easiest way possible, but the easiest way possible doesn't make for a satisfying life. Kind of like sitting on the couch stuffing yourself with cookes and watching movies and playing video games is easy but does not lead to a satisfying life. Hard stuff like school, military service, exercise, etc. toughens up a person mentally and physically.

I know someone who needed the structure of the military to do well even though a high school dropout but after service ended never could seem to get or keep a job.

They always talked about how they should have gone back into the military wouldn't be able to get married, etc etc as well as how depressed they were.

I think this kind of person is maybe trickier to deal with than someone who is depressed over a specific loss or event. If they are tough to start with or at least of average toughness I think it can be easier than someone who has a lot of catching up to do and half a lifetime or so of bad decisions.

Another thing, the kids who I know who quit school, it was a divorced mom who signed the papers to ok it. I think in general dads can be a little tougher about stuff. I think a mom can cave in to the pressure of how tough school is and how it would help them to get out of school (which it rarely does).

Well suicide is not necessarily a member of the group belonging to the other two. Let us remember back in Ancient Rome it was an order of their judicial system that some people, senators, go home and slash their wrists. Depression can be something someone is born with, if you think of a car that has dirty fuel system or a bad set of spark plugs. Depression is very invasive in the way that a lot of people are affected by it. People turn to drugs and alcohol sometimes without even realizng they are depressed. Obesity, loss of loved ones, environment conditions as in where they live and work can also trigger depression. But with those, people can change that. Seasonal depression is another...can't wait for warm weather. If I remember correctly however early spring rates highest for suicides. There are thousands of socially disconnected people out there and they are clumsy with meeting new people and making friends. It is a myth that depression is license for artistic creativity. Someone who is depressed may not want to even get out of bed let alone draw or pick up an instrument or pen. Hope this helps...I have a golf lesson to go to... Waiting for the bus. Typed this on a blackberry. Lol

Genetics
Research shows that depression runs in families and that some people inherit genes that make it more likely for them to get depressed. Not everyone who has the genetic makeup for depression gets depressed, though. And many people who have no family history of depression have the condition. So although genes are one factor, they aren't the single cause of depression.

Life Events
The death of a family member, friend, or pet can go beyond normal grief and sometimes lead to depression. Other difficult life events, such as when parents divorce, separate, or remarry, can trigger depression. Even events like moving or changing schools can be emotionally challenging enough that a person becomes depressed.

Family and Social Environment
For some teens, a negative, stressful, or unhappy family atmosphere can affect their self-esteem and lead to depression. This can also include high-stress living situations such as poverty; homelessness; and violence in the family, relationships, or community.

Substance use and abuse also can cause chemical changes in the brain that affect mood — alcohol and some drugs are known to have depressant effects. The negative social and personal consequences of substance abuse also can lead to severe unhappiness and depression.
